Microsoft推出了一個新的platform：Microsoft® Silverlight™(就是先前傳說已久的WPF/E)，Microsoft是這樣說明Silverlight的：
is a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering the next generation of .NET based media experiences and rich interactive applications for the Web.
這是一個以web為based，提供browser plug-in(像Flash一樣)呈現多媒體與互動內容，號稱跨平台(嗯...)，可支援Windows與Mac OS X的各種browser，使用Silverlight的話，無需改變現有的網站設計，甚至包括用Adobe Flash作出來的內容；另外也對網站設計者和開發者提供大量的開發工具和support開發環境，如C#, Javascript (ECMA 3.0), VB, Python and Ruby等
另外，Adobe也將推出Media Player！
